7-zip (Freeware):
7-zip ranks first in our top 5 list as there is absence of all useless and extra elements in its UI. besides its UI, it supports variety of packing/unpacking formats like 7z, XZ, BZIP2, GZIP, TAR, ZIP and WIM with incorporation of AES-256 bit Encryption to ensure Tight Security for your files. Also provides integration with windows shell and command line support too.
Supported OS: Windows, Linux, Mac.

PeaZip (Freeware)
On Second ranking comes Peazip , similar to 7-zip it is again freeware tool with good, clutter free User-Interface . Talking about formats supported , it supports about 150 of them. moving onto the exciting features , it facilitates archive conversion, file splitting/merging,
byte-to-byte file comparison, discovering duplicate files. other common features Encryption and Command Line support provided is similar to that of 7zip.
Supported OS: Windows, Linux, BSD.
FreeArc (Freeware)
Third ranker, FreeArc again freeware compressing/archiving tool with PeaZip User Interface. Best part of this tool is according to our testing we found it quite faster than above two. All Features are almost identical to above tools the only point where it stands aside is Encryption provided, it supports AES/Blowfish/Twofish/Serpent . but due other downsides of it like no support for 64bit and lack of support multi-volume archives , it stands at third position in our list.
Supported OS: Windows, Linux.

WinRAR(Shareware)
Fourth runner-up WinRAR ,though it is not freeware li ke above three. But due to its Extensive User Interface covering novice/intermediate/advance user makes it stand in our list. It supports RAR
and ZIP for packing/unpacking and CAB, ARJ, LZH, TAR, GZ, ACE, UUE, BZ2, JAR, ISO, 7Z, Z
archives for unpacking. With support for AES encryption and ability to create self extracting and multi-volume
archives. According to its developers it could support archives up to 8,589 billion gigabytes
in size sounds interesting.
Supported OS: Windows.
Universal Extractor(Freeware):
Last in our List , Univeral Extractor . As the name suggest it is only unpacking tool , sounds weird what this tool is doing here if it can only unpack, right ? but wait a sec it can unpack virtually any archives, self extracting EXE sufficient and the only interesting features about it.
Supported OS: Windows.
